On
Saturday, 21 April 2007, it was time again for the yearly regional First-aid
contest of the county of Lippe. This year, it took place in the city centre
of Lage. The contest consists of several teams of the region and from
further away competing against each other in 4 different tasks. The tasks
cover the subjects medical services, supplying, technical capabilities and
knowledge about the Red Cross. Six volunteers from Blomberg were there this
year to take the challenge.

At
9 o’clock in the morning, the vehicles were prepared. Besides the contest,
we put the vehicles on display on the marketplace of Lage, and so the
patient transport vehicle, the smaller emergency ambulance, the big
transport vehicle and the staff transport vehicle plus technical trailer all
went to Lage to show off.

At
1 o’clock p.m., the contest began. We draw lots and began with the medical
service task, which consisted of a bike accident. Two injured persons
resulting from the accident and a young man collapsing by the sight of blood
were to be attended to.

The
next task was the supply task: We had to supply and distribute convenience
goods (hygiene articles, covers, dishes etc.) after an evacuation.
Next
was the technical area with supplying a tent with electricity, heating etc.,
always keeping in mind the necessary safety measures.

Last but not least was
the brain-jogging part – our knowledge about the Red Cross was tested. We
were asked to name seven protection symbols, to state the qualification of a
volunteer at choice and to name the number and job of the persons belonging
to a Red Cross unit.
All
in all we had a lot of fun. The weather and the mood were just great.

In
the evening at the party, the award ceremony took place. We came in 5th
and were very happy about this place.
|

to the winners of this year’s contest and good luck at the next contest,
which will take place at a higher regional level.
