Practical Training With the Woebbel Fire Department

Blomberg / Wöbbel, June 26, 2008

At 7.30 p.m. on the 26th of June, the Woebbel Fire Department met for their weekly training, as usual.
A short while later, they got an alarm: "Smoke emission in the Schieder road maintenance centre, one person missing."
The fire brigade searched the building with breathing protection and found a lifeless person after a short while. To provide medical support, the 4-83-2 emergency ambulance of the Blomberg Red Cross was called, which arrived a short while later at the site.
Very quickly it was determined that the person unfortunately could not be saved and was declared dead.
Several firemen wondered why the Red Cross was not really eager today. Even as they wondered, a mayday message arrived via radio: "Fireman with laboured breathing symptoms".
One fireman couldn't keep back and called : "You knew that, you bastards!"
He could see that he was right by the wide grin of the two Red Cross volunteers, who then had to get to work themselves:

- Transport of the injured fireman
- How do you unpack that?
- Basis measures
- Diagnostics / Recognising a smoke intoxication
- Transport into the emergency ambulance
- Oxygen administration, ECG and further examination
- Preparation and administration of an intravenous drip
- Which drugs are needed?
- Preparation and administration of an intubation

The training was kept on a small scale in order to practise the measures needed with colleagues who do not have much experience.
In the final discussion, it turned out that everyone (also the coaches) had learned a lot again.

The ones who couldn't take part this time must not be sad, the next training is being planned already.

Easter Fire Wheels 2008

Blomberg / Lügde, March 03rd, 2008

Just as last year, our season began with the local Easter Fire Wheels in Luegde. After meeting at the fire station in Luegde and a common meal, we marched out to the different stations.

This year's Easter Fire Wheels was very calm which was due to the dry but very cold weather. The number of visitors was much smaller than expected.

The first paramedics left their post at about midnight, the others arrived at the headquarters in Blomberg at 01.30 o'clock.

We also thank the Blomberg St. John Ambulance Service, the Detmold Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW), and the Luegde fire department for their energetic support.
Here you will find a bigger report about the last year Easter Fire Wheels
